What is the difference between an electric cooperative and other energy providers?

Cooperatives are owned by the members they serve, and operate as not-for-profit organizations. Unlike conventional investor-owned corporations, cooperatives prioritize benefit for the consumer. Does my service change if my co-op becomes a member of Touchstone Energy?

Your utility service is not affected by membership in Touchstone Energy Cooperatives. However, membership provides your cooperative with a multitude of tools to save you money, from communication resources to member benefit cards. Can I buy my power from a Touchstone Energy cooperative even though I’m not currently a member of an electric cooperative?

Whether or not you can choose your energy provider depends on your state laws. Customer choice has been introduced in some states but not nationwide.
