As the days to CONNECT’18 count down, many of us are starting to double check our flight itinerary and plan what we will pack. However, a few brave and intrepid co-op employees among us are about to begin their journey to Salt Lake City, UT in their co-ops’ electric vehicles (EVs), as they take part in Touchstone Energy’s Drive to CONNECT EVent.
Their mission? Make it to CONNECT in time for the EV Pre-conference workshop on Tuesday, May 8 to share their stories from the road, provide information on their co-ops’ EV programs and discuss their thoughts about electric transportation and infrastructure. Although this seems simple, it is no easy feat. In addition to carefully planning their road trip along a route with strategically placed charging stations, they will battle various road conditions that will consume battery charge and ultimately impact their journey’s success.
Why would someone be crazy enough to do this? The simple answer: get the experience they need to stand as the trusted source of energy information for their member-owners. Yes, participating teams are taking part in this national challenge to show their EV program support, but they are also using it as an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge about travelling beyond their co-op’s service territory. Teams will collect data during their trips as research, set a baseline for the future and obtain knowledge that will help them better understand what is needed to help member-owners.
The drivers will depart from various co-op locations across the country and will be sharing updates throughout their journey. If you’re interested in riding along the journey with them, follow Touchstone Energy and the #DriveEVent hashtag on social media. You can also download the CONNECT app for real time driver updates on the activity feed.
If you are coming to CONNECT and would like to hear from the drivers, or learn more about implementing an EV program at your co-op, there is still time to register for the EV pre-conference session. Just click here.
