Rick Ryan recognized with the 2019 Distinguished Service Award

Published On: March 12, 2019

“I am humbled to receive this award. I believe there are others who have more experience to qualify them, but I am grateful to accept this recognition for the work I have tried to do in my career to support Touchstone Energy and its values. The principles at the heart of Touchstone Energy are ones that I share and try to live out in my own personal and professional life,” the humble winner of the Distinguished Service Award, Rick Ryan, told us.

The Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives Distinguished Service Award is the brand’s highest honor, presented annually to a cooperative employee or director who has made outstanding contributions to building the brand on the national stage.

We are excited to announce that Rick Ryan, vice president marketing and member services at Nolin Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation (RECC) in Elizabethtown, KY, was awarded Touchstone Energy®Cooperatives Distinguished Service Award on March 12, 2019.

Rick is recognized for being a consistent champion of Touchstone Energy for years. In fact he received the Brand Champion Award in 2010.

Rick serves as a brand ambassador, educating new employees on the value of Touchstone Energy and Nolin RECC’s unique role as one of the founding members. He also speaks to groups such as the Member Advisory Council about the value and core principles of the brand. When serving on the board from 2010-2017, he helped to keep local co-ops abreast of what was happening with Touchstone Energy. He showed additional support for these co-ops by attending several of their annual meetings as an ambassador for Touchstone Energy, while encouraging his fellow board members to do the same at the co-ops in their area.

“Rick is clearly proud of his service to and through Touchstone Energy,” Nolin RECC Communications Manager Sarah Fellows told us. “He prominently displays the brand throughout his office. He has also taught me as a new employee about Touchstone Energy and the importance of the key values. Some of the first discussions we had during my orientation time were about the values that guide the work we do at Nolin, values that have been emphasized by Touchstone Energy.”

Rick has also guided the brand in positive ways. As a board member, he spent nearly two years immersed in the structure of Touchstone Energy’s governance in order to clarify its identity and help to strengthen its relevance to member cooperatives.

“We are proud to recognize Rick’s dedication and service to the national brand he helped to build, promote and now, to leave a legacy the national brand has earned,” shared Lynn Moore, Touchstone Energy executive director. “Our membership sustains the reputation as the ‘gold standard’ in the energy industry and Rick clearly demonstrates the Cooperative Difference. He respects and serves his member-owners, collaborates and is tirelessly committed to his community.”

Rick takes every opportunity to make an impact at Nolin RECC and his local community. Rick serves at Ronald McDonald House and welcomes Honor Flight Veteran’s at the airport when they return. He consistently works with community programs, such as Rotary and Farm-City Day, donating his time to provide leadership within his community. And he exudes all of Touchstone Energy’s values:

  • Integrity – Rick encourages and reminds his co-workers that its members first in everything they do.
  • Accountability – Rick is dedicated to serving members in any way he can and always follows through on what he says he’s going to do. Rick is a man of honesty and his decisions are based on his values – many of which are reflected in the “cooperative way.”
  • Innovation – Rick actively seeks new ways to interpret communication outreach. He was one of the first and strongest advocates for the use of social media to help make Nolin RECC relevant to today’s generation.
  • Commitment to community – In addition to his involvement through Touchstone Energy with community organizations, he has donated his time to support more than 12 community organizations.

“I value the years I was able to spend helping to strengthen the work of member co-ops through the work we were doing with Touchstone Energy. I am enthusiastic about continuing to advocate for Touchstone Energy into the future,” Rick told us.

We value you, Rick, and enjoy working with you to bring the brand into the future. Congratulations on this achievement!
