Together We Save Energy Conversations Workshop

Published On: August 08, 2016

With temperatures this summer reaching the highest on record in many areas around the country, air conditioners have been running overtime, increasing energy consumption and racking up costs for member-owners. Are you receiving high bill complaints? Are member-owners calling with questions about home energy efficiency? Get the answers you need with the Together We Save “Energy Conversations” workshop.

This two-hour, in-house training is designed for non-technical, front-line employees who have daily contact with member-owners in the office, on the phone or in the field. In addition to teaching the very basics about energy efficiency, the workshop helps employees answer the most commonly asked questions about energy use, lighting and high bills, including:

  • Why is the price of electricity so high?
  • How can I improve the efficiency of my home?
  • We were gone a large part of the month. Why is my bill still so high?

The workshop, taught by veteran cooperative employee and Touchstone Energy instructor Eddie McKnight, uses hands on learning to simply and clearly demonstrate energy efficiency. To schedule an “Energy Conversations” workshop at your cooperative, contact [email protected].

Wondering how this workshop can benefit your cooperative?  Just see what past participants have to say:

Butch Williamson, CEO at A&N Electric Co-op, VA:

“Before we can really talk about improving member engagement, we need to better understand some of the challenges our members are facing on a daily basis.  ‘Energy Conversations’ from Touchstone Energy provided all areas of our workforce the training that helps build employee confidence in meeting our members’ needs by having relevant conversations about costs and efficient uses of energy.

“No matter what your role is at your cooperative, our members look at all of us as energy experts.  It doesn’t matter how long you have been part of the co-op family, this training is a great start for building the foundation for continuing dialogue with members.  The post-workshop evaluations showed that Eddie’s experience with members over a 35-year career in the electric cooperative industry was invaluable to our employees.”

Janet Rehberg, Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives, OH:

“With more new member services employees joining the cooperative family, we wanted to bring a course that could assist them on how to answer members’ questions about energy use.  We had a lot of experienced employees take this class as a refresher as well.

“We hosted two workshops per day at three different locations around the state of Ohio to allow for more flexible scheduling and convenience for our member cooperatives. Employees were very receptive and engaged with the trainer, Eddie McKnight, and the course material. We had an overall evaluation rating of a 9.4 out of 10 with 43% scoring all 10’s.”

Vanessa Clayborn, Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative, TN:

“The Energy Conversations training is right on target.  It opened the conversation about energy efficiency and savings with our customer service team.  It took real-life questions they get every day and armed them with confidence to not only answer the inquiries but especially to help our members.  The training material was practical and easy to understand, and Eddie McKnight put them at ease to ask questions, share and get involved. It. Is. Awesome!”

Denise Deel,  Farmers Electric Coop,  TX

“Eddie McKnight brought a wealth of information to our employees with the Energy Conversations training – giving us great facts, thoughts, fresh ideas and suggestions we plan to adopt to better serve our members.

The visuals and explanations thereof, excellent and abundant PowerPoint presentations, tips and sharing of Eddie’s experiences made the course most interesting to employees in all departments.   The PowerPoint will most likely be included as a handout in our new employee orientation.  Farmers looks forward to having Eddie back for more training!”
